Clubs
Children learn best when they are given the opportunity to work
in their interest areas. Parents and teachers take a variety
of clubs during Terms 2 & 3. Yoga, African Drumming, Fishing
and Gardening were amongst those on offer. |

Reading
Recovery
Children identified as requiring additional assistance to
develop reading skills are included in an individual, 20 week
reading program. This program is recognised internationally
as a successful early reading intervention program.

Gifted
& Talented Program
Programs for gifted and talented students are available in a
range of areas including literacy, mathematics, information
technology, the arts, technology and media. During Term 4, students
displayed their work at the Annual Art Show and prepared the
school magazine. |

Can Do It
Students are trained in the four foundations for success -
Confidence, Persistence, Organization and Getting Along with
Others. Goal setting, achievement and celebration of success
is emphasized throughout the school.

Victorian
State School Sports Events
District sports available include athletics, swimming, football,
netball, basketball, soccer, cricket and bike education. Newhaven
Primary school has competed at state level in soccer and swimming.

Camps
Grades 5 & 6 camps are to Melbourne and Sovereign Hill.
Grades
3 & 4 attend Woorabinda and Rumbug.
Grade 2 has a sleepover at school.
Preps, Gr. 1 & 2 travel to Melbourne on a major excursion
to further develop their independence.

Student
Welfare
At Newhaven Primary, we understand the importance of children
feeling safe and happy at school. Student Welfare is a Charter
priority and our pastoral programs support students in need.
Every
Prep student is partnered with a Gr. 6 buddy who assists them
settle into school life. Shared activities are enjoyed throughout
the year.
We also encourage students to participate in school community
programs and assume leadership roles. |

LAP
Program
The Learning Assistance Program
(LAP) matches a volunteer with a
student who would benefit from the opportunity to engage in
activities with an adult. The program aims to build self esteem
and confidence.

PMP
All children in Prep, Grade 1 & 2 take part in a Perceptual
Motor Program (PMP). The program ensures children develop
the necessary physical skills. These skills are important
in the development of reading, writing and fundamental motor
skills. Parents are encouraged to assist with the program.

Instrumental
Music
Students are able to access private music lessons for guitar
and keyboard. The lessons are held at school and during school
time. The lessons are full fee paying.
